How To Use A Gamecube Action Replay Without Actually Owning A Disc Or Card For One ================================================================================== Note: This is only written with the NTSC Version in mind. A PAL version of the disk image may exist somewhere on the web. The site linked to for the AR disk image only contains the version 1.4 disk image if my memory serves me correctly. Though you shouldn’t need any other version of it. Needed items: ============= 1. Some method of loading GC homebrew. 2. A computer with Broadband access. (The PC doesn’t actually have to be connected just have the ability to connect through an ether net port.) 3. A memory card in slot B 4. a bit of your time. There are many methods of Homebrew loading. Datel even released a tool to do so that would work. For this you don’t actually have to have a computer with an ether net port. Or there is through an SD load method…. (Pointless for this application as an AR is needed for this.) (Datel uses the same method but without the AR.) There is also the Most logical option for a person owning a copy of Phantasy Star Online Episode 1+2 (not plus) PSOload. This method is the one I use and therefore the one I shall base my tutorial on. Okay the first thing you need to download is a disk image of the AR. This can be found at this site. (The file will be in an RAR archive which you will need a PW for.) http://www.bubbling-iso.com/news.php The following are the possible PWs for this archive. www.ndcgaming.net roms.animek.com www.ndcgaming.com *Note: DO NOT copy and paste because you might copy the extra space, just simply type them out. All passwords on the files have been checked and rechecked for accuracy. If the passwords don't work, you must have done something wrong. 80% of the files use the dot net password, 15% uses animek, and the remaining 5% uses the dot com When you have this file (it will be a GCM file) you will need a tool ARextract. It's the AR Extractor by Dark Akuma located on this page. http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=downloads&categoryid=44 Okay now extract it from the archive and add you AR disk image to the folder. Drag and drop the image over the ARextract.exe and it will extract the Action Replay Dol file for you. Okay now that you have you Dol you need a way to load this on the cube…. That’s where the Homebrew loading method comes into play. The only method I’m familiar with is PSO load so it is the only one I will describe the setup of. Items needed for this method. 1. GCN with a BBA 2. A cat 5 crossover cable. (Will also work with a router and standard network cables.) 3. PSO episode 1+2 (not plus) 4. At least 1 memory card. (I suggest 2) 5. A computer with an open ether net port. (or connected to the same router.) 6. PSOload v2.0 found at this site http://www.maxconsole.com/?mode=downloads&categoryid=32 Okay now unzip this archive and add the AR.dol file to the folder. Now to set up your gamecube to boot this AR. To set it up you need to change your computers IP to a suitable address. I suggest something along the lines of 192.168.1.75 (because wireless devices like to start at 192.168.1.100) either way you need to set the IP so that it looks like this 192.168.1.??? ? = 0-9 Now set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 Set your default gateway to your router if using a router or to whatever you intend to use as your GC’s Ip if using the crossover cable. The DNS server should match the Default Gateway. Okay now your computer is set up. (Don’t forget to make sure your firewall or any other program won’t block PSOload) Okay now to set up the gamecube Now load up you copy of PSOload. Go under options. Select network option and then provider option. Okay now choose the memory card for the network settings. (A is the default) Enter network setup Choose edit menu Set the line timeout option to not automatically disconnect. And set it to manually set an IP address. Click next Okay now enter an IP for the GC. It must be in the following format 192.168.1.??? ? = 0-9 Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 Now set the default gateway and primary DNS to your computers IP. Click next Okay ignore the proxy settings they are not needed. Click next again Click save. Now return to the game. If you don’t already have a character you will need to create one. It doesn’t matter how your character looks or anything. Okay now back to the computer for a bit. Go into the PSOload folder and drag and drop the AR.dol file onto the PSOload.exe file. This should open an MSdos command prompt window. Okay now back to the gamecube. Go to online play enter any needed info to start a game. None of this matters just as long as it lets you start online play. Okay now the game should load for a bit and then it will pull up a screen for a bit before going blank. Good. Now wait a few seconds and the AR should load. If loaded successful then disconnect the cable from the GCN or the network will cause interference that won’t let you load a game. Alright now if you have a memory card in slot B it should simply create a code save on that card. And you will have a fully working action Replay v1.4.
